The Neighborhood

Bergen Lafayette is a commuter friendly neighborhood, offering quick access to NYC via the Light Rail Station, path, car or Ferry. Bergen Lafayette is a vibrant and diverse neighborhood in Jersey City that has experienced an influx of new residents and businesses in recent years, with a growing number of restaurants, cafes, and shops opening up in the area. Situated to the west of downtown Jersey City and bordered by Communipaw Avenue to the south. Bergen Lafayette is affectionately known as “BELA” or by long term residents as “Lafayette”. There are several parks and green spaces in Bergen Lafayette.

With the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as a spectacular backdrop, Liberty State Park is one of the state’s most dramatic parks. Wide open fields, miles of pathways and an outdoor performance area provide an inviting atmosphere for all types of recreation. The Liberty Landing Marina, Liberty House Restaurants and the NJ Empty Sky 9/11 Memorial complete the northern end of the park, while the western portion is dominated by the recently expanded, state-of-the-art Liberty Science Center.
The Bergen Lafayette community is well known for its proximity to pet friendly and active parks. Berry Lane is a 17 acre park with beautiful baseball, football & soccer fields. Multiple basketball courts are flanked by outdoor workout stations and even a dog & skate park.


Besides driving or walking. Commuting around Bergen Lafayette in Jersey City typically involves various transportation options:
1. Light Rail: The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) system serves the Bergen Lafayette neighborhood, with stations like Liberty State Park, Richard Street, and Garfield Avenue providing easy access to downtown Jersey City and Hoboken, as well as connections to PATH trains and ferries to Manhattan.
2. Bus: NJ Transit and local bus services offer several routes connecting Bergen Lafayette to other parts of Jersey City and neighboring areas. Bus routes like the 4, 81, and 87 serve this area.

3. PATH Train: The Journal Square PATH station is nearby, providing a convenient connection to
Manhattan, Newark, and other parts of northern New Jersey.

4. Biking: Bergen Lafayette has become more bike-friendly in recent years, with bike lanes and rental options available for eco-conscious commuters.
